The Central Única das Favelas (CUFA) has been recognized in the Resilience category at the international Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards 2025, promoted by the United Nations (UN). The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in Rome, Italy.
At the ceremony, CUFA was represented by Marcus Vinicius Athayde, President of CUFA Global. “Winning this award, competing with organizations from all over the world, is proof that our daily struggle in the favelas is being seen and valued globally,” Marcus said.
CUFA received the award in the Resilience category, which highlights and recognizes organizations and initiatives that demonstrate the ability to overcome adversity through innovation and determination—qualities that define the institution’s social, cultural, and educational efforts across favelas throughout Brazil. “Resilience is at the core of our work. It drives us to transform challenges into real opportunities for change, strengthening people and their communities. This recognition from the UN is a tremendous motivation for us to keep moving forward,” said Marcus Vinicius Athayde.
The Heroes of Tomorrow award highlights projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), expanding the visibility of initiatives that generate positive social impact.
