CUFA and Mainstreet Launch “Astros da Favela” Project with Studio-School in Penha

CUFA (Central Única das Favelas) and Mainstreet Records, Brazil’s largest independent urban music label, have just launched an innovative project set to transform the music scene in the favelas: Astros da Favela (Stars of the Favela).

Officially inaugurated on May 21 in the Complexo da Penha (Vila Cruzeiro), the project marks the opening of the first unit in a network of studio-schools exclusively for young talents from the communities. This modern, well-equipped space will be free and accessible to favela residents who want to learn, create, record, and professionalize themselves in the world of music.

“Our goal with Astros da Favela is to open doors for talents from the favelas to develop, professionalize, and take their rightful place in the music scene,” highlights Celso Athayde, founder of CUFA and director of F-Records.

A Gateway to the Music Industry

More than just a studio, Astros da Favela is an artistic training center offering:

  • Practical and theoretical classes on music production, composition, performance, and recording.
  • Workshops and MasterClasses with renowned rap, trap, and funk producers.
  • Assisted sessions with Mainstreet artists.
  • Creative experiences through collaborations, musical challenges, and technical support.
  • Open studio for creating and recording original projects with professional assistance.

The space is the result of a partnership between CUFA and Mainstreet, with support from Spotify, Nêmesis (architectural acoustics specialists), and Favela Records.”This will be the first of many studios with state-of-the-art equipment. We believe that music can change destinies and that these young people need opportunities to write their own success stories,” affirms Eric Santana from Mainstreet Records.
